Our Approach to Driver Training
MDT specialises in safe, fuel efficient and economical driver development for any driver tasked to drive company vehicles and for private individuals.
By educating drivers on the realistic causes of collisions and having a better understanding of this. We are very aware that we cannot change the driving habits of every driver on the road but make drivers attending the courses aware that they can change their own driving habits and attitudes and thereby making it safer not only for themselves and passengers but also other road users around them.
We also teach drivers to correctly identify potential collisions early enough to best avoid them by changing their driving style.
By driving safer this results in more efficient driving practices which not only reduces the fuel consumption drastically but is more efficient on the general wear and tear of vehicle parts i.e. brakes, shocks, clutches and gear boxes amongst all other mechanical parts.
This also results in a much reduced stress factor when driving on a daily basis.
The main factors of collisions are Following Distance, Speed, a blatant Dis-regard to Road Traffic Regulations (this includes all other factors i.e. unroadworthy vehicles, use of cell-phones and other device distractions, driving under the influence [not only of alcohol], jumping red traffic lights and stop signs, failing to wear seat-belts and restraining children etc. etc.)
Results of bad driving of company and private vehicles:
Even if your drivers pay their own speeding tickets, what does the company sit with? Excessive fuel usage, more wear and tear on the vehicle parts, higher rate of collisions, more serious collisions due to higher speed collisions, non payment of insurance if negligence is proven against the driver, vicarious liability is civil cases as the driver is in your employ and driving your company vehicle.
Although electronic monitoring devices work to a degree, they do not tell the entire story of how a driver drives. It may record if the driver exceeds the speed limit but does not record if the driver is driving at too high a speed for the conditions, although it may be within the speed limit of the road or far to dangerous due to weather conditions. It does not record if following distance is inadequate, which is the greatest cause of collisions. This, the driver has to learn and understand for him/herself in order to apply it.
Aspects of Road-Rage are dealt with and drivers are made aware of the hazards of resorting to Road-Rage and to understand how to control tempers on the road.
Further to this, the driver skills make it safer for your own family as they see how driving should be done and often learn by example, especially children that often from an early age pick up the driving habits of parents and end up driving as they have been unknowingly coached by parents.
